John Fleming
(Glasgow) - Back to Ref League Table
- 02/08/97 - Saints v Utd. 6 (1 vote)-
Booked John McQuillan and Attila. Incredibly inconsistent with a
tendency to miss obvious advantages.
- 06/12/97 - Aberdeen v Saints.13 (2
votes) - Turned down 2 penalty claims for Saints but in general
let the game flow and for a change allowed the advantage rule. Fairly
lenient with some of the tackles though.
Jim Herald
(Newton Mearns) - Back to Ref League Table
- 09/08/97 - Saints v Clyde. 7 (1
vote)- Good decisions but a bit whistle-happy. Should have
red-carded Clydes Crawford Baptie for a leg-break tackle on Jenko.
- 27/09/97 - Hibs v Saints 5 (2 votes)-
Gave a soft penalty to Hibs but also booked Roddy for nothing and let
Charnley away with murder - obviously watching too much Scotsport.
Allowed play to go on whilst injured players were still on the park
- 29/11/97 - Rangers v Saints 24 (5
votes)- Didnt give a penalty against Saints and kept the game
flowing. Bookings for Davison and Kane but as is usual against the Old
Firm their players got away with murder. And as for the offside
goal......
- 04/04/98 - Aberdeen v Saints 13 (2
votes)- Allowed the game to go ahead which is worth a vote and
kept bookings to a minimum. Actually listened to linesmen as well which
makes a difference but points off for not penalising the rugby tackle on
Il Biscotti.
Mike McCurry
(Wegieland) - Back to Ref League Table
- 16/08/97 - Motherwell v Saints 4 (1
vote)- Whistle-happy inconsistent and generally crap. Clamped
down on Saints with 2 bookings in the first 10 mins but let Motherwell
away with murder. Didnt seem to like his linesmen much either.
- 12/01/98 - Saints v Hearts 24 (3
votes) - Good game despite the cameras being there. Awarded
Saints a penalty but loses out slightly for letting Frail away with a
torrent of dissent and Rousset the Pousset with all the timewasting.
Hugh Dallas
(Motherwell) - Back to Ref League Table
- 20/08/97 - Saints v Celtic 4 (2
votes)- With all the controversy at the red cards to ONeil and
Roddy its easy to forget that he had not a bad game until then. Having
said that the Del sending-off was total idiocy since he didnt even
appear to consult his linesman who was in a much better position. Added
to that the turned down penalty claim at the end and the way he managed
to avoid red-carding Boyd in the first half means he'll be remembered
the next time he refs the Saints.
- 28/03/98 - Saints v Kilmarnock 6 (5
votes)- First match since the debacle of the Coca-Cola Cup and
it's nice to see a consistently crap performance from our "top"
whistler. Soft bookings for Legend and Dino and some extremely dubious
offside and free kick decisions led to the traditional chants of "Dallas,
Dallas get tae f**k!!" from the home support. Token votes given for
ignoring Paul Wrights diving and turning down the Killie penalty claim
in the last minute. This man is an arse of the first order.
Alan Freeland
(Sheepville) - Back to Ref League Table
- 23/08/97 - Saints v Celtic 7 (1
vote)- With the reputation this game was going to get it wasnt
going to be easy. Tries to let the game flow and kept the Saints
bookings down to 2. One of the best so far this season (though thats not
saying much).
- 03/01/98 - Pars v Saints 11 (2
votes) - At least he allowed the game to go ahead in appalling
conditions but the failure to red-card Westwater for the professional
foul on the Outlet or to take action against the Pars defence for trying
to murder Legend and Wolf has to count against him.
- 07/03/98 Falkirk v Saints 25 (7
votes) - Crap "homer" performance in the first half.
Far too willing to book Saints players yet let Falkirk challenges (such
as the one on Dasovic) escape unpunished.
- 11/04/98 Saints v Pars9 (2 votes)
- OK performance but seemingly unwilling to punish some nasty fouls from
the Pars whilst dishing out 'soft' bookings for Main and McMahon.
Refused Saints a valid penalty claim in the first half.
George Simpson
(Westhill)Back to Ref League Table
- 30/08/97 -Dunfermline v Saints 8 (2
votes)- 4 bookings for Saints (only one of which IMHO was
justified) and only one for the Pars - which should have been a red
card. In addition a chalked-off goal and a bit whistle-happy. Still he
did listen to his linesmen and seemed apart from the bookings to be
reasonably on the ball. But how did Tod stay on the park?
- 21/03/98 Rangers v Saints 19 (3
votes)- Good game let down by chalking of a valid Saints
equaliser at the end. Still he let the game flow and wasn't influenced
by Negri or McCoists antics.
Garry Mitchell
(Arbroath)Back to Ref League Table
- 13/09/97 - Saints v Hearts 9 (2
votes)- Failed to take any action against Neil McCann for hacking
Danny or the off-the ball shove on Tosh but booked McQuillan and
McCluskey for similar offences. Also missed the Pointon last man foul on
Steve Tosh and countless handballs. Bit of a twat really.
- 22/11/97 - Saints v Hibs 11 (3
votes)- Kept a fairly even control of the game apart from missing
2 blatant penalties (in Saints favour for a change) and not red-carding
Charnley for elbowing Phizzy in the face. Still at least he didn't book
any Saintees.
Willie Young
(Clarkston) - Back to Ref League Table
- 20/09/97 - Saints v Rangers. 6 (1
vote)- Consistent enough but doesnt seem to understand the
advantage rule. Marks deducted for having a shite linesman who didnt
flag offside and giving a soft penalty to the Huns at the end of the
game. Still he did wise up to Laudrups diving quick enough.
- 24/01/98 - Saints v Partick. 19 (3
votes)- Dull game and pretty non-controversial. Missed a few
obvious fouls for both sides but let the game flow.
Kevin Bissett
(Inverness) - Back to Ref League Table
- 04/10/97 Saints v Aberdeen. 15 (3
votes)- Consistently favoured the away team and somehow ignored
the fouls on the Saints strikers. The only reason hes getting anything
like a reasonable mark is the Aberdeen penalty claim in the 92nd minute
that he turned down.
- 25/04/98 Arabs v Saints 10 (2 votes)-
Red carded thug Pedersen so that counts for something along with the
disallowed Arab goal. Loses marks though for petty decisions and letting
play go on despite players suffering from head injuries.
John Young
(Thornliebank) - Back to Ref League Table
- 18/10/97 Killie v Saints 8 (3 votes)-
Some strange decisions including a soft penalty after a Saints player
had been fouled at the other end of the park and inconsequential
bookings (strange how Jenko got yellow-carded for diving but the Killie
forwards escaped it all afternoon)
Tom Brown
(Edinburgh) - Back to Ref League Table
- 25/10/97 Celtic v Saints----- (0
votes)- Gave a penalty against Saints (but who doesnt). I've not
cast a vote this time based on the fact that I missed the match.
John Rowbotham
(Kirkcaldy) - Back to Ref League Table
- 01/11/97 Saints v Motherwell 22 (3
votes)- 3 penalties (2 for Well), only one of which was dodgy. In
general let the game flow well and made sure no stupid feigning injury
attempts by the pseudo-Wegies were allowed.
- 07/20/98 Killie v Saints 10 (3
votes) - Oh dear a poor game. Booked 3 Saintees but none of the
Killie cloggers / divers and somehow missed 90% of the fouls. Disallowed
Saints goal when Phizzy was adjudged to have fouled "Crap"
Meldrum.
John Underhill
(Edinburgh) - Back to Ref League Table
- 08/11/97 Saints v Dunfermline 6 (1
vote)- OK game. Bonus for refusing Britton his diving penalty
claim but points knocked off for allowing the Pars so much timewasting
(not that it would have made much difference) and not red-carding
Britton for the challenge on Main.
Stuart Dougal
(Burnside) - Back to Ref League Table
- 15/11/97 Hearts v Saints11 (4 votes)-
Generally crap and favoured the home team as witnessed by the soft
booking for Dasovic yet letting Ritchie foul Georgio the whole game.
Compunded things with the crap penalty award into the incredible amount
of injury time added on at the end.
Graeme Alison
(Dumfries) - Back to Ref League Table
- 13/12/97 Saints v Killie 7 (5 votes)-
Absolutely shite referee with 3 bookings to Saints players for either
innocent or soft decisions whilst the Killie players got away with any
diving / throwing the ball away antics. Allowed the Kilmarnock goal to
stand despite the obvious impediment to Main and despite making up for
it by awarding Saints a crap penalty (to everyones surprise), was by far
the worst ref this season.
- 25/02/98 Motherwell v Saints 1 (5
votes) - The votes say it all - whilst some of us were willing to
think of the previous performance as a blip tonight confirmed Allisons
refereeing skills as non-existent. Yes he did give Saints another soft
penalty but with the 3 stonewall claims he turned down and his over
eagerness to brandish cards (resulting in a red for Father Dougal), he
lost control of the game halfway through the second-half.
Dougie Smith
(Troon) - Back to Ref League Table
- 20/12/97 Arabs v Saints 9 (5 votes)-
Another crap referee but this time a poorly biased homer performance as
Dundee Utd get away with murder and Saints are penalised several times
with 5 bookings and a soft ordering-off for Jenko.
- 21/02/98 Saints v Dons 10 (3 votes)-
Very poor performance turning down 3 valid penalty claims for Saints and
booking Il Biscotti whilst letting Aberdeen away with foul throws,
timewasting and kicking the ball away at free-kicks. Also managed to
over-rule linesmen at every opportunity.
Sandy Roy
(Edinburgh) - Back to Ref League Table
- 27/12/97 Saints v Celtic 56 (7
votes) - Some dodgy decisions regarding cards but kept control of
the game well and refused to fall for the whingeing Wegies. Mr. Dallas
take note.
- 28/02/98 Saints v Dundee Utd 16 (3
votes) - No bookings in a local derby but suffered from poor
linesmen and an eagerness to allow the Arabs to get away with foul
throws, handballs and timewasting. Still he could have been worse.
Ian Elsmlie
(Portlethen) - Back to Ref League Table
- 17/01/98 Hibs v Saints30 (6 votes)
- Good game let down towards the end by some soft bookings and a
tendency to overdo the whistling.
Jim McCluskey
(Stewarton) - Back to Ref League Table
- 31/01/98 Saints v Rangers 38 (5
votes) - Missed some off the ball incidents but managed to get
through the match without showing any cards.
- 14/03/98 Saints v Hibs 30 (6 votes)
- Some strange decisions and a reluctance to stop the game for
treatment to head injuries. Added to an aversion to booking players for
assault (Mr Rougier and Mr Lavety) and a low rating results.
Kenny Clark
(Paisley) - Back to Ref League Table
- 14/02/98 Saints v Stirling 27 ( 4
votes) - Some strange decisions and timekeeping but kept
reasonable control and did award Saints a deserved penalty. Not helped
by two incredibly crap linesmen.
- 09/05/98 Celtic v Saints 8 (5 votes)
- A return to form for this ref with some diabolically biased
homer decisions. Overruling linesmen and ignoring obstructions were
amongst the peculiar decisions.
Bobby Orr
(Kilbarchan) - Back to Ref League Table
- 18/04/98 Hearts v Saints 8 (2 votes)
- Refused to play advantage on at least 2 occassions when Saints
would have benefited and turned down a good penalty at the end. At least
he booked McCann though.
Martin Clark
(Edinburgh) - Back to Ref League Table
- 02/05/98 Saints v Motherwell 16 (4
votes) - Absolute shite as he let the Well team away with several
elbows in the face and persistent fouling on Del and Jenko. Gave a valid
penalty to Motherwell but chalked of Saints goal.
