Well what can you say other than that has to be one of the *best* ever
Saints performances I can remember, with 6 goals coming in a 30 minute
period in the second half.
The game started well for us with Tosh and Phizzy missing good chances in
the first 20 minutes or so. Roddy was working well up front (including one
amazing dribble past 5 of the Scum before squaring to Tosh who missed a
sitter). Meanwhile Phizzy claimed a shot had gone over the line when it
rebounded out after hitting the underside of the bar. In midfield Dasovic
and Oneill were working well and Jenko was having a good time on the wings
(strange how he plays more on the right when Preston is left back -
methinks these two have still to develop a good understanding).
Saints opened the scoring with Roddy heading home an inswinging cross
from a Jenko free kick on the right, for his 20th goal of the season.
Unfortunately the Scumdee fans were only silenced for 10 minutes before a
poorly punched out clearance by Main was met by Arse Charnley on the edge
of the box for him to send a low shot back through a muddle of players for
the equaliser. Scumdee pressed on more after that as Saints seemed to lose
some of their discipline, and Main was forced to make several good saves
to keep the scores level at half-time.
The second-half was a different story, either due to Aggie lacing the
players half-time cuppas of the psychological morale boost from the
rendition of "Bonnie Wee Jeannie McColl" over the tannoy.
Suffice to say it was the best experience for a Saintee for a long time
with the action as follows ::
51 mins :: Jenko crosses from the left for the Head Of Rod to grab
his 21st of the season.
55 mins :: A long through ball from midfield finds Phizzy who
beats the Scum defender before casually chipping an oncoming Billy
Thomson. 3-1.
60 mins :: Tosh scores the 4th after a goalmouth scramble. Some
Scum leave.
72 mins :: Tosh is replaced by Attila. Phizzy is fouled on the
edge of the box which allows Jenko to score from the free kick - 20 yards
out and into the top corner of the net. 5-1 and some more Scum leave.
79 mins :: Another Jenko free kick. On the right from 25 yards out
he send a rocket of a shot past Thomson - easily the best Jenko one yet.
6-1 and chants of "We Want 7" from the East Stand, which turn to
laughter as Charnley has a wee barney with his defensive colleagues after
the goal. Cue a second yellow card (first was for attempted murder on
Dasovic) and the red. What a cheeky chirpy character he is !!
81 mins :: Georgio (on for Phizzy) scores no. 7 after the ball
rebounds off the post after a save from Attila. Saints go wild.
Unfortunately so do some Scumdee fans who take the gubbing with their
usual sportsmanlike gestures amounting to about 20 broken seats in the
North Stand.
82 mins :: Danny makes his only mistake of the game with a late
tackle conceding a penalty which O'Driscoll nets.
Still 7-2 isnt too bad a win to get on New Years Day against that bunch
of tinks. The final whistle celebrations on the pitch were great with all
14 Saints players lining up in front of the East Stand for the "3
cheers". Quick mention too for the new song "You're going
bust, Youre going bust, Dundees going bust!!"
Nice way to start the year.
