First game of the season so Saints decided to stick to tradition by not
winning - not that we didnt have chances tho. One goal disallowed for
offside and a well-marshalled Falkirk defence (made up of Hibs / Hearts
'veteran' rejects). There was enough height to prevent Roddy from picking
up any headers, and Georgio was well-controlled.
Overall, it was a game Saints should have won. Main was forced to make
some excellent saves in the first half including preventing 2 certain
goals. At the other end, ONeil put Fizzy thru and his shot was saved by
Mathers only for Roddy to see his shot on the rebound stopped on the
line. Attila and Tosh were both playing out of their skin but in defence
McGowne either did not look too fit or was just being lazy - either way
some of his play / clearances in the first 45 were a liability.
Saints had most of the play in the second half but were unable to
either get a good shot on target or score. Falkirk had a couple of
good breaks upfield (one thanks to the traditional McQ being caught out
of position) but Davidson and Weir both played excellently in the Saints
defence.
At the other end, Phizzy missed a sitter (as usual), Preston (on for
Tosh) had a 20-yd free kick saved (as usual) and Roddy missed everything
in sight.
Attila got sponsors MoM award tho for my money it was Main. Bookings
for Davidson and McQuillen, though how Falkirks McGrillen was able to
stay on the park after a hack on Weir I dont know.
Oh well - its going to be a long season
