Not a bad match to watch for the neutral and a good win for the boys but
yet again we seemed to ease up in the second half. Still with the kick-off
being delayed 30 minutes due to Morton doing an Estonia, maybe the Saints
team were all set to peak from 3-430 instead of 330-520.
Saints started well enough against a Morton team who missed Linneberg in
midfield and resorted to the old Airdrie tactic of hacking the forwards to
break up the flow of the game. Suffice to say its a miracle they finished
the game with 11 men and Georgio and ONeil will have plenty of bruises. The
first chance fell to McQ after 3 mins when he broke past a static defence
only to rush the shot and send it wide.
After that ONeil and Georgio were causing plenty of problems. Still it
fell to Phizzy to score the goal from a goalmouth scramble on the line
after Jenko took one of his usual inswingers. To be honest it looked like
Wylie dropped the ball. Plenty of chances fell to Saints with Phizzy, Jenko
and ONeil all getting in good shots and Phizzy managing to hit the bar with
a header.
One bad moment in the first half was Danny going off hurt to be replaced
by McCluskey - it doesnt look too serious and McCluskey seems to be improving
all the time.
Second half saw a change of tactics by Morton and they introduced that
long-haired Finnish shit who then proceeded to skin McQ a few times. Saints
had plenty of chances with ONeil bringing out and excellent save from Wylie
from a header and Phizzy missing a sitter. At the other end Jenko headed a
shot off the line and Main made a few good saves.
Saints suffered more injury worries when Georgio went off with what looked
to be a thigh strain. With 15 mins to go he was replaced by Fyhr. Hard to
tell what sort of player he is really cos by this time Saints were defending
in numbers and only occassionally pushing forward. Jenko was replaced by
Tosh in the last 5 mins as Saints fought to hold on to the points.
