Welcome to the first game of the season to almost not take place. With a combination of the atrocious winter weather conditions and the fact that 15 mins before kick-off Partick still had 6 players missing led to the stories of an Estonia-style award of the points to the Saints. But the game went ahead (with Partick missing Zorro and Saints without Preston and ONeil). And suffice to say Charlie "I'll score a hat-trick tonight" Adam was left eating shit.
Saints got off to an excellent start on the real novelty of a Firhill pitch containing grass, with Callum Davison latching on to a loose ball on the edge of the box to send a rocket into the net. Saints seemed to lose the place after that and although Partick didn't look like scoring, the midfield seemed to be losing the place a bit. The refereeing of replacement Bobby Tait also left a lot to be desired as he seemed to incredibly miss the blatant Partick fouls.
Saints second came from a Jenko cross which was met by Danny Griffins head for him to snatch his first goal for the club. Roddy and Georgio both had efforts and Jenko missed a sitter before half-time.
The second-half was all Saints as in 58 minutes they got the third from Roddy after a goalmouth scramble over a Jenko corner. Saints kept up the pressure and the defence was hardly troubled with Tosh and Dasovic both doing a lot of good work in midfield.
Saints fourth came after 72 mins when Dasovic fed a through ball to Roddy who beat the offside trap and the defender to get the ball, then cut back in to beat two more defenders before sending a low curving shot into the net. Easily his best goal for Saints in recent times.
Scott came on for Tosh with 10 mins to go as Saints pushed for a fifth, but it was Partick who came more into the game. But Weir and Danny were immense in defence and held firm. No bookings for Saints but 2 for Partick which was pretty amazing given the crap homer refereeing. Oh yes and Dasovic now joins Attila in the post-match cheers.
Saints are now 6 points clear at the top of the league with a vastly superior goal difference. Thats also 4 league clean sheets in a row for Jesus.
Some days its great to be a Saintee !!!
