Saints needed three late goals to put some gloss on a far from convincing win at Tolka Park Dublin last night in the opening match of their Irish tour. John O'Neil put Paul Sturrock's side ahead in eight minutes after Rovers failed to clear an Allan Preston cross. Attila Sekerlioglu wasted a great chance three minutes before half-time when Roddy Grant knocked down a Leigh Jenkinson cross but the Austrian sliced his shot wide.
A penalty 10 minutes after the break put the hosts back in the match. Callum Davidson pulled down Richie Purdy and Marc Kenny blasted home. Grant had a penalty saved by home keeper Robbie Forde in the 77th minute but Saints scored three times in four minutes to wrap up the win. Substitute Ian Ferguson (on for Preston) looped a header in on 80 minutes then Sekerlioglu headed home a Jenkinson corner. Ferguson completed the scoring with a low drive from the edge of the box. Price came on late on to replace Grant and O'Halloran for Scott.
