St. Johnstone's romp over Highland League side Elgin City was marred by an injury to striker Paddy Connolly that forced him to hobble off in the opening stages of their latest tour fixture. He was replaced in 14 minutes by Allan Preston. Manager Paul Sturrock said, "The first-half performance was very disappointing, but I was much more pleased when we played to our capabilities in the second-half.
Danny Griffin's curling free-kick from the edge of the box put Saints ahead on 15 minutes, only for home defender McHardy to head a 33rd minute equaliser although Ferguson did drop the ball. But 2 goals in a minute from substitute Allan Preston (35 min) and Keith O'Halloran (36) had Saints comfortably ahead at half-time.
Eleven minutes into the second-half Stuart McCluskey collected a poor defensive clearance to volley Saints 4-1 ahead. Then another 60-second double extended the lead, Martin Nash cracking home a 25-yarder in 65 minutes and McCluskey made it 6-1 in 66 minutes with his second goal, this time from a Bollan free-kick. Phizzy came on for Nash after 69 minutes.John O'Neil tapped in the 7th from Kieran McAnespies pass. Kane replaced O'Halloran after 83 minutes.
