St. Johnstone's short tour of Ireland still leaves them waiting for a win following last night's scoreless draw against Bray Wanderers at the Carlisle grounds. The Irish Cup champions acquitted themselves quite well albeit against a second string St. Johnstone side which failed to inspire on a warm summer's evening.
With 17 minutes to go it seemed that St. Johnstone were about to take the lead after Lowndes had been upended in the penalty area but George O'Boyle, barely on the pitch a few minutes, directed a rather half-hearted attempt at Bray keeper Allan Young. This pretty much summed up the Saints' night , who play Shamrock Rovers in Newbridge Kildare tomorrow night.
Bray, relegated last season finished strongly in what was to be fair, a rather unengaging encounter. St. Johnstone had their fair share of chances in the first half with Paddy Connolly coming close after just 4 minutes and then just before the break, Danny Griffin the Northern Ireland international failed to test Young with a free kick.
The second half saw Bray in dominant form with Kerian O'Brian just shooting over the bar. And following O'Boyle's miss Griffin was forced to come to St. Johnstone's rescue when clearing a Mick Doohan effort off the line.
