Just
as we were starting to get into some reasonably skilful attacking play and
pushing forward good old Kenny Clark calls the game off cos of a wee bit
of snow (you'd have thought a Paisley man might like to experience lots of
powdery white stuff!!). Still from the 45 minutes that we did get to see
there were some signs of good football from the boys.
St. Sandy made one change from last week's defeat with Goalden Graeme dropping out the squad to leave the Ginger Bomber and Miguel up front whilst the mysterious Paddy Thingy returned to the bench. With a pitch covered in snow and the famous orange ball being used, the opening minutes were to say the least cautious. Still Saints seemed to be enjoying some room in midfield and Pope was showing how good he can be with the ball at his feet and some room to move with some nice turns and touches. Up front Nathan and Miguel added some badly needed pace to the Saints attack.
Saints first good chance came after 10 minutes when Blaster saw his header from a corner well saved by the HIVBees keeper, a feat repeated later from a Del header. At the other end, Saints were using the offside trap to good effect with Kenny "Gordon Smith sez I'm wonderful" Miller caught several times - much to the annoyance of the junkies in the North Stand. When Hibs did threaten in attack, the Saints defence marshalled them well with Frail looking fairly settled and the short passing game played to effect. Main was called into action half-way through when he saved from a shot after the HIVBee beat the offside trap and the clutches of Weir and Frail.
Nathan picked up the games first booking for a late challenge although the lack of contact did lead me to think that HIVBees spent last week training in Sheepville. Of course Kenny Clark decided that once he booked Nathan he didn't need to book anyone else despite Kane and Del coming off worst in similar challenges. Saints had most of the possession as the half wore down with Pope, Del and Chief in midfield feeding the strikers - although both Miguel and Nathan did seem to tire towards the end.
Half-time was the end though with Clark the Cissy deciding he wanted home to his E's early. MoM for me if there was one was Pope - to say the least he looked outstanding given the state of the pitch underfoot.
And from the 45 minutes on show today - there is hope!!!
